The Future is Now: The Power of Latino and Young Democratic Voters We invite you to join us on Tuesday, June 15 at 6 p.m. for The Future Is Now: The Power of Latino and Young Democratic Voters, an illuminating conversation with three prominent activists in the rapidly growing Latino and youth community. They will provide insight into the dominant issues and expectations of their communities and the growing influence they have on state and national politics. Among the topics will be voter rights, immigration, reproductive rights.
Fighting Back: Chris Hanlon, local Democratic activist, will speak briefly about the effort now being undertaken by the nonprofit Arizona Deserves Better (AZDB) to refer voter-suppression legislation recently signed by the Governor to the 2022 ballot. AZDB is working with attorneys to draft referendum language in order to let voters decide the fate of the Permanent Early Voter List (PEVL), which has been abolished under SB1485; and the current five-day period for ballot curing, which has been compressed to a few hours under SB1003. Arizona Deserves Better is calling for donations and for volunteers for what will be a 90-day effort to gather 118,000 signatures for each referendum item.
