Stop Potential Gerrymandering in Arizona!

Featured Speaker: Deborah Howard, Lead Volunteer for the Arizona Indivisible Statewide Redistricting Team

Deborah Howard will explain redistricting—the decennial process by which political district maps are created. 2021 is the year we will establish legislative and congressional districts for the next 10 years. The new lines that will be drawn based on census data and other criteria will affect political futures of candidates as well as the lives of their voters. It is a highly political process requiring extreme vigilance to ensure that communities of interest are respected, and political balance can be achieved.

Despite the legally mandated independence of the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission, there are opportunities for political pressure from within and without that could affect our ability to elect Democrats. As most of us are aware, LD1 Democrats are largely outnumbered by Republicans and Independents. This makes electing Democrats to our state legislature very difficult. Is there a solution? Yes, maybe - learn how Deborah and her team are addressing the challenges and how we can help.
